Inflammation is the culprit.
Recent studies have shown that one of the biggest mechanisms, culprits and factors of disease and general bad health is due to inflammation.
The easy way of looking at inflammation, is seeing it as something that swells within your body. Your body is responding to activity in the body to protect itself, but it’s not dealing with properly.
That’s what can happen with inflammation.
And they are discovering depression is a case of an inflammatory response.
We now know that depression is associated with a chronic, low-grade inflammatory response and activation of cell-mediated immunity, as well as activation of the compensatory anti-inflammatory reflex system. It is similarly accompanied by increased oxidative and nitrosative stress (O&NS), which contribute to neuroprogression in the disorder. The obvious question this poses is ‘what is the source of this chronic low-grade inflammation?’
This review explores the role of inflammation and oxidative and nitrosative stress as possible mediators of known environmental risk factors in depression, and discusses potential implications of these findings. A range of factors appear to increase the risk for the development of depression, and seem to be associated with systemic inflammation; these include psychosocial stressors, poor diet, physical inactivity, obesity, smoking, altered gut permeability, atopy, dental cares, sleep and vitamin D deficiency.
They are starting to shed light on the best foods and supplements in order for a person to be at an optimal setting of life.
Some of the supplements I currently take are Vitamins and Omega 3’s.
I have been off of this currently but I’ll be on it again soon. I think the benefits for me lie in the herbal area. MegaMen Vitamin from GNC. I feel a significant difference mostly in extended ability to physically activity. Everything seems to function better, smoother.
I also have myself some good Omega 3 fatty acids. These are the ones you want to get. Not the 6 not the 9. The 6 is often corelated with bad pro-infllammatory agents. It can wreak havoc in you body.
If I could add one thing to improve the general quality of life to most people it would be Omega 3 fatty acids.
Another I’ve had in my regmen for a while are Vitamin D tablets. Vitamin D is actually a hormone. I take anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 iu. it has shown to improve testosterone, reduce signs of depression and mental illness.
I’ve also been trying Curcumin supplements and see how they feel in my body. It is supposedly a good mix with the Piperine in black pepper it adds the effect of “bioavailability”.
With these vitamins and supplements, it can surely help mitigate or ameliorate the inflammatory response in the body.
What we’ve known all along is not so much of a surprise. It’s what we’re told from an early age. Eat you vegetables, eat good food, don’t eat junk food. However, I think these products are far worse than anyone wants to say. It’s best to limit the junk in your life, whether that’s food or anything that hinders your life.
“Stop the Soda, stop the BS”
just recently they came out with information that sugar-filled cokes are bad for you. What is satisfying for the tongue isn’t good for you too much. I’ve mentioned this lightly before. But what they find here is that it will age you faster.
Coke can age you faster. The mechanisms behind this is that it essentially messes up the telomeres of a person. Causing internal damage, which ends up grinding the insides of the genes and making a person succeptible to rapid degeneration, hence the aging etc.
Sugar-sweetened soda consumption might promote disease independently from its role in obesity, according to UC San Francisco researchers who found in a new study that drinking sugary drinks was associated with cell aging.
The study revealed that telomeres – the protective units of DNA that cap the ends of chromosomes in cells – were shorter in the white blood cells of survey participants who reported drinking more soda. The findings were reported online Oct. 16 in the American Journal of Public Health.
The length of telomeres within white blood cells – where it can most easily be measured – has previously been associated with human lifespan. Short telomeres also have been associated with the development of chronic diseases of aging, including heart disease, diabetes and some types of cancer.
“Regular consumption of sugar-sweetened sodas might influence disease development, not only by straining the body’s metabolic control of sugars, but also through accelerated cellular aging of tissues,” said Elissa Epel, PhD, professor of psychiatry at UCSF and senior author of the study.
I think we can all do our part in consuming better food, so we can live happy healthy lives.
What I’ve also been taking is a Magnesium supplement, in a tea form. I use Natural Calm, it’s a kind of cherry flavored tea. I decided to use it for its muscle relaxing properties. More research is coming out that realizes the myth of cholesterol as well. Which I was fairly interesting because people believe it was what causes heart attacks. But cholesterol acts more like a bandaid to deal with the inflammation in people’s body. You hear that there’s good cholesterol (HDL) and bad (LDL) but it’s important to entire the entire mechanism within the body.
